Our Statement of Faith
WHAT WE BELIEVE
ABOUT GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Scripture: Exodus 34:5-7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Nehemiah 9:6
ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is God's eternal Son, and has precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We believe further that He is not only true God, but also true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal, visible, premillennial return from heaven.
Scripture: John 1:12, 3:16; Hebrew 1:1-3; Revelation 1:4-6; Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:35; I Timothy 2:5
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit, His personality, and His work in regeneration, sanctification, and preservation. His ministry is to glorify the LORD Jesus Christ, and implement Christ's work of redeeming the lost by empowering the believer for godly living and service. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the moment of salvation, and in accordance with the scriptures, each believer is to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
Scripture: Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 5:18; John 3:6, 14:16-17,16:7-15; I John 2:20-29; Romans 8:9-27
ABOUT THE BIBLE
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, infallible, and absolutely inerrant in the original writings, complete as the revelation of God's will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak.
Scripture: Acts 1:16, 28:23; Romans 15:4; I Corinthians 2:13, 10:11; II Timothy 3:16,17; II Peter 1:19-21
ABOUT THE TRINITY
We believe in one God, creator and sustainer of all things, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that these are equal in every divine perfection and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
Scripture: Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 12:29; Acts 5:3-4; II Corinthians 13:14
ABOUT SALVATION
We believe in salvation solely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We further believe that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, and was purchased by Christ on the cross, and is received by man solely through faith, apart from any human merit, works or ritual. We further believe salvation results in righteous living, good works, and proper social concern.
Scripture: Ephesians 3:9-21, 2:8-9; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Revelation 1:5
ABOUT MANKIND
We believe God created man, male and female, in the image of God and free from sin. We further believe man is a sinner by nature and choice and is therefore spiritually dead. We also believe that those who repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are born again by the Holy Spirit.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26, 2:21-25, 3:14-21; John 3:3-8; Romans 3:23, 6:23
ABOUT THE CHURCH
We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of which Christ is the head. We believe that the true Church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that this body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been immersed upon a credible confession of faith and have associated themselves for worship, for instruction, for evangelism, and for service. We believe the ordinances of this church are believer's baptism by immersion in water and the Lord's Supper. We also believe in the interdependence of local churches and the mutual submission of believers to each other in love.
Scripture: Matthew 16:16-18, 28:19; Luke 22:19-20; Romans 12:5, 6:3; II Corinthians 5:14-21
ABOUT CHRISTIAN CONDUCT
We believe that the supreme task of every believer is to glorify God in his life; that his conduct should be blameless before the world; that he should be a faithful steward of his possessions; and that he should seek to realize for himself the full stature of maturity in Christ.
Scripture: Romans 15.5-6; Ephesians 4.22-5:15; 2 Corinthians 8.7; Luke 16:9-13; 2 Peter 3:18
ABOUT END TIMES
We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His Church, the bodily resurrection of the saved and lost, the eternal existence of all men either in heaven or hell, and in divine judgments, rewards, and punishments.
Scripture: Matthew 24:27, 44; John 14:1-4; Romans 2:6-8; 1 Corinthians 3:10-15; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 19-20
ABOUT SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Spiritual gifts are Holy empowering abilities that God gives to Christians through the Holy Spirit to help with the building up of the Church and the advancement of the Gospel on earth. In 1 Corinthians 14:3,12,26, the Apostle Paul instructs this congregation on the function of spiritual gifts. He repeats several times that they are to strengthen or build up the church.
The Holy Spirit is the owner and dispenser of the spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:7,11). As believers, we are stewards of the gifts of God (1 Peter 4:10). Every believer can expect the Holy Spirit to minister through him or her with spiritual gifts. “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good…” (1 Corinthians 12:7; emphasis added). All the gifts are needed in the body of Christ. All the gifts are equally valid. In 1 Corinthians 12:12–26, the Apostle Paul instructs the church that no one should despise his/her own gift by comparing it to the gifts of others. And he also says that no one should despise someone else’s gift as being less than his/her gift. Some gifts are more apparent than others, but each gift is important.
While there are many diagnostic tools out there to help you determine what your spiritual gift is, the better option of discovering your gifting is through your local church and its leadership. What do the leaders and the local body think that you do best that contributes to the welfare of the congregation? What kind of ministry do you enjoy the most and shows the most fruitfulness? This probably indicates where there are spiritual gifts operating in your life. If you enjoy teaching and find that people are edified through your teaching ministry, it is likely that the Holy Spirit has given you a gift of teaching. If you find that the Lord puts people in your path who are ready to surrender their life to Christ, you probably have a spiritual gift of evangelism. If you enjoy inviting people to your home, either for a meal or to stay, you probably have a gift of hospitality. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE LIST OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS).
